Regulatory Law, Professional Licensing & Discipline

The attorneys at McConnell Van Pelt, LLC regularly advise and represent professionals in the areas of professional, occupational, and institutional licensure and enforcement with state and federal regulatory agencies and state and federal bars. Members of our firm represent attorneys, judges, elected public officials, health care providers and institutions in bar admission, licensure, discipline, retention, privileging and credentialing matters from initial investigation through trial and appeal.

As a challenging area of the law, we have earned our reputation helping our clients through complex proceedings before the Colorado Supreme Court’s Office of the Presiding Disciplinary Judge and various government agencies. Our attorneys are experienced in representing lawyers, healthcare professionals and entities in investigations, cases and matters before the Colorado Supreme Court, the Board of Law Examiners, the Board of Medical Examiners, the Board of Nursing, the Department of Public Health and Environment, and in government investigations. These proceedings are often coordinated with legal, medical and other negligence cases.

We advise our clients about the ever-changing world of professional conduct rules and state and federal regulations that affect their ability to do business in a changing economic environment. Our lawyers successfully help clients comply with healthcare regulations and professional conduct rules. MVP attorneys regularly advise healthcare clients on matters involving reporting of serious adverse events, policies and procedures, informed consent, JCAHO compliance, and other issues. Our attorneys have experience with credentialing and peer review matters in the health care area.

The regulatory law group at MVP has extensive experience with the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct, the Colorado Rules of Procedure Regarding Attorney Discipline and Disability Proceedings and the applicable federal rules governing attorney bar admission and discipline. Several of our attorneys have been actively involved in drafting new proposed rules and ethics opinions for the Colorado Bar Association’s Ethics Committee.
